Type Fours are very introspective, and spend a significant chunk of time ruminating on their past experiences for artistic inspiration. They love new projects, and often use their emotions as a springboard for starting new creations.

Since Introspects use their emotions to create, their work is one of a kind, and extremely individual. Each piece of creative work holds a part of them, and it is separate from the others expectations.

Type Fours can be very self-deprecating, and are prone to seeing themselves as flawed individuals. Thus, they are also prone to seeing others as ideals, and can feel deficient in themselves as a result.

Fours can range from being creative and compassionate to being self-destructive and bent on being seen as a victim. This range is dependent on the health of their state of mind.

This personality type belongs to the ‘heart-based’ section of the Enneagram model. They have a core emotion of sadness, along with the type Two and Three personalities who make up the rest of this triad. All of these personalities struggle with feeling loveable as they are, and often struggle with self-worth.

Unlike the other two members of this triad, Fours are likely to embrace this sadness, and create an identity around this core emotion. They can be very centered around their emotional experience, and can sometimes forget to look at things objectively, and get out of their own heads.

Core values

  • Type Fours value being themselves, and expressing their authentic selves to the entire world.
  • Introspects desire the world to understand and acknowledge their unique experience.
  • They want to be considered as separate and unique from others at all times, and hate any type of conformity.
  • Because of this belief, the Fours are never going to submit to trends, because they would view this as a betrayal of their deeper selves, rather than an exploration of a new form of expression.
