Enneagram and fashion are undoubtedly correlated; after all, each type’s characteristics dictate how they dress and whether they care about finding their style.
Some types, like cerebral Fives or laid-back Nines, may not consider clothes very important, while others, like creative Fours and image-conscious Threes, put great effort into their appearance.
Whichever category you belong to, read on to gain valuable insights about each Enneagram type’s personal style and the correlation between their fashion choices and personalities.
So, let’s dive in!
Each Enneagram type has its own distinct fashion style, influenced by the type’s traits, motivations, desires, and attitudes. For instance, bolder, more individualistic types like experimenting with their wardrobes, while quieter, more reserved personalities prefer to stick to the tried-and-true options.
In the following section, we will examine each Enneagram type’s clothing style and learn how it aligns with their personalities.
Enneagram Type 1 is known as the Perfectionist for a good reason. Idealistic and conscientious, Ones always strive to improve the world around them and leave little room for mistakes. They have a clear sense of purpose and pride themselves on their organizational skills and high standards.
All this is reflected in One’s personal style, which is typically spotless, put-together, and polished. Ones don’t allow a single piece of clothing or accessory to clash with the rest—everything must be in its place and contribute to the overall aesthetic they are going for.
As a result, Ones often look professional and classy even when they aren’t wearing formal attire, and they tend to stick to tried-and-true combinations. Neutral and muted colors particularly appeal to this type, which rarely feels the need to experiment with patterns or fabrics.
Enneagram Type 2, or Helpers, make it their life’s mission to help as many people as possible, be they strangers in need or their loved ones. They value relationships with others so much that they occasionally neglect themselves and their own needs.
This sort of attitude is also shown in this Enneagram’s fashion style. Twos rarely care about fashion and focus on the practicality and functionality of their clothing rather than anything else. Usually, they will throw on a pair of jeans (with pockets for utility’s sake), a cardigan, and a pair of comfortable shoes and call it a day.
The one fashion staple that most Twos carry around everywhere is a large bag or a backpack. For these natural caregivers, this is a must—bags can be filled with all sorts of items that can help others, like painkillers, water bottles, bandaids, or emergency snacks.
However, even when picking a bag, they choose whatever seems most convenient rather than something that expresses their style.
Enneagram Type 3, the so-called Achiever, is the complete opposite of Type 2 when it comes to fashion. Threes are flashy, bold, and deeply concerned about their image, never missing a chance to show off their personal style and stand out from the crowd.
This is hardly surprising considering Threes are extroverted, dynamic personalities who value success above everything or, at the very least, care about projecting a successful appearance. In some ways, they are the superstars of the Enneagram typology, overflowing with confidence, ambition, and charm.
So, a Three’s style can be quite versatile, but all their outfits have one thing in common—they are eye-catching. This type doesn’t shy away from bright colors, sequins, silks and velvets, and statement jewelry. Apparently, Threes take the “dress for success” motto to heart, and their wardrobe certainly reflects that!
As Individualists, Enneagram Type 4 personalities are creative, authentic, and introspective, devoting their lives to self-exploration and self-expression. They view themselves as different from others, in both positive and negative ways, and have a deep-seated desire to show this to the world and find someone who would understand them.
Unsurprisingly, this Enneagram’s fashion choices are also unusual, unexpected, and unique. In fact, Fours view personal style as a form of art, so they give themselves free rein to experiment and create combinations no one else would have thought of.
For instance, they might match patterns or colors that don’t normally go together or dress in vintage styles that haven’t been worn in decades. To a Four, that doesn’t matter as long as they can have fun and show their individuality to the world.
Although Enneagram Type 5, or the Investigator, also values individuality, their wardrobes are nowhere near as experimental as Four’s. After all, Fives tend to live in their heads, focusing on interesting ideas and complex concepts rather than the physical world. As a result, style is rarely their priority, and they simply put on whatever they grab first.
Before grabbing anything, Fives need to buy some clothes, and they typically gravitate toward basic black and white pieces that can be paired with almost anything. They also prefer to buy high-quality outfits that will last them a long time, minimizing the need for frequent shopping.
However, Fives that do care about fashion may experiment with pops of color, alternative styles, or unusual designs. Still, it’s all quite minimalist, and comfort is typically their number one priority.
Enneagram Type 6, known as the Loyalist, is devoted, responsible, and hard-working, with a strong desire to uphold existing structures and traditions. In Six’s mind, ensuring things stay exactly as they are provides the protection and stability this type desperately craves.
When it comes to fashion, this Enneagram type avoids any sort of experimentation with clothes and has a hard time incorporating new pieces into their wardrobe. They like to stick with the classics—timeless jeans, white shirts, and knee-length dresses. And once they buy a clothing item, Sixes can wear it for years, never feeling the need to change things up.
Enneagram 6 is also resistant to fashion fads and has little interest in what is currently stylish. Whether someone considers their wardrobe outdated doesn’t concern them as long as they feel comfortable in their skin.
Enneagram Type 7, or the Enthusiast, is on quite the opposite side of the scale compared to Type 6. While Sixes need stability and structures to function, Sevens feel stifled by them and seek fluidity and change.
For Sevens, life is about excitement, activity, and exploration—the same mindset they bring to choosing their outfits. They are masters of experimentation and combining the unexpected, and they never tire of novelty.
In fact, it would be inaccurate to say that Sevens have a particular style because that might completely change in a few weeks or months. They are not afraid to overhaul their wardrobes entirely when they get bored of them and try out different and often surprising aesthetics.
However, if we were to describe this Enneagram’s preferred fashion style, it would be colorful, pattern-rich, bold, and adventurous, just like their personalities.
Enneagram Type 8, nicknamed the Challenger, is driven, ambitious, and confident, with a clear idea of what they want and how to get it. Eights often take on leadership positions, inspiring others with their impressive strength, unmatched willpower, and ability to take on any challenge.
In line with their personality, Eights like to dress in classic but bold outfits that combine simple, neutral items with striking statement pieces. For example, they might wear a timeless black dress but then top it off with an unusual scarf, an odd accessory, or an unexpected bag.
Since Eights can pull off these classic outfits with innovative twists so well, they often inspire others to try similar styles. In other words, Eights are trendsetters, admired for their looks as much as for their larger-than-life personalities.
In contrast to Eights, Enneagram Type 9, known as the Peacemaker, prefers to follow trends. However, this is not because Nines particularly care about appearing trendy, but rather because that’s the easiest way for them to approach fashion.
Laid-back Nines behave that way in many spheres of their lives—not wanting to make waves, they simply go with the flow and accept whatever comes their way with few complaints. Above all, they prioritize inner and outer peace, and being in the spotlight brings neither.
So, when they’re not following trends, Nines might opt for minimalist looks and outfits that require little effort. For example, jeans, graphic T-shirts, and sneakers are staples in a Nine’s closet, and they rarely feel the need to go beyond that.
To wrap up, let us emphasize that everything we’ve mentioned applies both to male and female Enneagram fashion. Regardless of gender, Enneagram types tend to hold identical beliefs about style and behave in similar ways.
Furthermore, keep in mind that every type has outliers. So, if you’re a Two who likes to be fashionable or a Four who prefers inconspicuous clothing, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve mistyped yourself. It may be a simple case of not aligning perfectly with all your type’s characteristics.
